Trip summary

Broad Peak, Broad Peak is the twelfth highest mountain in the world, with an altitude of 8,051 meters (26,414 feet) above sea level. It is located in the Karakoram Range, in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The mountain is named after the famous explorer Sir Martin Conway because its broad, relatively flat summit makes it difficult to determine its exact height from a distance. It is considered a relatively easy mountain to climb compared to other peaks in the Karakoram Range, but it is still a challenging climb that requires technical skills and good physical condition.

Geographically, Broad Peak is located southeast of K2, in the Gasherbrum mountain group. The first ascent of Broad Peak was made by a small Austrian expedition in 1957. All four members of the team—Marcus Schmuck, Fritz Wintersteller, Kurt Diemberger, and Hermann Buhl—reached the summit.

We pride ourselves on having a high success rate on Broad Peak. We are considered the best mountain organizers. The expedition will have the full support of Seven Summit Treks’ veteran Nepalese Sherpa team, with prior experience on Broad Peak and exceptional technical skills. The Sherpa team possesses in-depth knowledge of climbing, risk management, a friendly demeanor, and high motivation.

The Seven Summit Treks Broad Peak expedition will begin the third week of June from Islamabad and continue with a flight to Skardu. The elevation gain from base camp to the summit exceeds 3,000 meters, so we will aim to establish three camps to facilitate the ascent and acclimatization. We will rotate frequently between camps for optimal acclimatization. The base camp is normally located at 5300 m/17,388 ft, Camp I at 6000 m/19,685 ft, Camp II at 6500 m/21,325 ft, Camp III at 7100 m/23,294 ft and the summit at 8048 m/26,404 ft.

More Information

Base Camp (5,300 m/17,388 ft)

Fly to Skardu, travel to Jhola, and trek to base camp, which is reached at an altitude of 5,300 m, with magnificent views of the Karakoram. After 6 days of trekking, you will arrive at the Broad Peak base camp. At base camp, our best team of Sherpas will be waiting for you. Seven Summit Treks boasts the best base camp setup. You will spend approximately one month at base camp. Each member will have an individual tent and shared tents with a dining area, kitchen, shower, communication, and toilet. Before ascending, we will hold a large ceromantic puja at base camp to wish for good luck and a safe climb.

Camp I (6,000 m/19,685 ft)

Once you arrive at base camp, your personal climbing sherpa or team leader will review basic and advanced training. For optimal acclimatization, once the sherpa team has fixed the rope, you will ascend to Camp I, located at 6,000 m altitude. On this section of the climb, you will encounter mixed terrain with some crevasses, rock sections, and ice on the glacier. This will take approximately 5 to 6 hours of climbing. We will rotate frequently between Camp I and Base Camp.

Camp II (6,500 m/21,325 ft)

The climb from Camp I to Camp II is the most difficult and challenging section. There are sections of rock and steep terrain, but fixed ropes will be in place, so safety with our Sherpa will be our priority. This section will take between 4 and 5 hours.

Camp III (7,100 m/23,294 ft)

The climb from Camp II to Camp III is a long ascent. It will take 5 to 6 hours. You will climb with the climbing sherpa and a fixed rope.

Summit (8,051 m/26,414 ft)

The most important day is summit day. It’s the ultimate goal for every climber. It’s a day climbers dream of. Therefore, most climbers begin their summit ascent late at night and will trek for approximately 8 to 10 hours, reaching the summit around 8-10 am. The summit of Broad Peak is breathtaking. You’ll be mesmerized by the stunning views of various 8,000m peaks, including K2, G1, G2, and many other beautiful mountains in the Pakistani Himalayas. On the same day, after taking some photos, you’ll trek down to Camp II, or base camp, which takes about 6 to 7 hours. Descending from the summit is also a challenging part of this expedition, so a safe descent is a crucial aspect of summit day. Seven Summit Treks will have a Sherpa climber accompanying a member from Camp IV to summit day and back to base camp. The SST guide will carry oxygen cylinders for the team members and themselves. To safely reach the summit of Mount Broad, SST will always rely on the best weather forecast, communication, and support from the base camp leader. Fixing ropes to reach the summit is the primary task of our climbing sherpa, so we greatly admire his ability to fix ropes, open trails, and make every effort to ensure the group reaches the top of Mount Broad.
