Trip summary

Dhaulagiri, It is the fifth highest peak in Nepal and the seventh highest in the world, with an elevation of 8,167 meters above sea level. This mountain is located in the Northwest Corridor of Nepal, in the Myagdi District. Mount Dhaulagiri stretches approximately 120 kilometers from the Kaligandaki River to the Bheri River to the west. The name “Dhaulagiri” is derived from the Sanskrit words “Dhawala” and “Giri,” meaning “White” and “Mountain,” respectively. Mount Dhaulagiri is also the highest point in the Gandaki River basin. Annapurna I, located 34 kilometers east of Dhaulagiri I, forms a gorge, known as the Kaligandaki Gorge, the deepest in the world, through which the Kaligandaki River flows.

Dhaulagiri is considered one of the most fascinating peaks to climb. Mount Dhaulagiri has five ridges and south and west faces. Most ascents have been made via the first route, known as the “Normal Route.” The northeast route is considered the normal route; however, Mount Dhaulagiri has been climbed from all directions. It was the Swiss-Austrian team of mountaineers, led by Kurt Diemberger, who first reached the summit on May 13, 1960. As all routes on Dhaulagiri are challenging, only experienced climbers seem to be interested in this mountain.

Base camp is usually located at around 4,750 m, followed by three additional camps before reaching the summit. The first camp is at 5,850 m, the second at 6,400 m, and the last at 7,400 m.

“Each year, Seven Summit Treks organizes a large number of expeditions to Mount Dhaulagiri.”

More Information

Base Camp (4750 m/15,584 ft)
Seven Summit boasts the best base camp. You will spend approximately one month there. Each member will have an individual tent, and there are also tents with a dining area, kitchen, showers, communication facilities, and toilets. Before ascending the mountain, we will hold a large ceromancy ceremony at base camp to wish for good luck and a safe climb. At Dhaulagiri Base Camp, Seven Summits will provide a helicopter service, and each helicopter will bring plenty of fresh vegetables, fresh meat, drinks, and sometimes bread.
Camp I (5850 m/19,193 ft)
For optimal acclimatization, once our Sherpa team has fixed the ropes, you will ascend to Camp I, which is located at an altitude of 5850 m. On this section of the climb, you will encounter mixed terrain with a few crevasses and ice on the glacier section. This will take you between 4 and 5 hours of climbing. We will rotate frequently between Camp I and Base Camp.
Camp II (6400 m/20,997 ft)
The most technical section of climbing on Dhaulagiri is from Camp I to Camp II. You will have to walk on snow for over an hour, traverse several steep sections of ice, and climb a ladder. This will take about 2-3 hours.
Camp III (7400 m/24,278 ft)
The climb from Camp II to Camp III is a long distance. It takes only 4-5 hours. It is a challenging route, and with some technical climbing in crevasses, the experience will be quite comfortable.
Summit (8167 m/26,795 ft)
The most important day is summit day. It’s the ultimate goal for every climber. It’s a day climbers dream of. Most climbers begin their ascent late at night and hike for approximately 7 to 8 hours, reaching the summit around 8-10 am. The summit of Dhaulagiri is breathtaking. You’ll be mesmerized by the stunning views of various 8,000-meter peaks. Later that day, after taking some photos, you’ll hike down to Camp III or Camp II, which takes about 5 to 6 hours. Descending from the summit is also a challenging part of this expedition, so a safe descent is a crucial aspect of summit day. Seven Summit Treks will have a Sherpa guide accompanying each member from Camp IV to summit day and back down to base camp. The SST guide will carry oxygen cylinders for themselves and the other members. For a safe summit of Dhaulagiri, SST will always have guidelines on the best weather forecast, communication, and backup support from the base camp leader. Fixing ropes to the summit is the primary task of our Sherpa climber, so we greatly admire him for fixing ropes, opening trails, and making every effort to ensure the group reaches the summit of Dhaulagiri.
